Pirate day
Our playground program meets OUTDOORS on the school premise where resident only children 6-12 years of age are supervised by college and high school aged counselors. This is a drop-in type of program which operates 9am- 1:45pm Monday - Friday for 6 weeks throughout the summer months. This program DOES NOT meet on rain days and may close early due to rain, thunderstorms or excessive heat warnings. Summer vacation playground activities include swimming at Carrigan Intermediate school pool, arts & crafts, sports, table top games, special events and field trips. The City’s summer nutrition program is offered to all sites.

Registration will be done at our Painter Park office or online starting April 23rd - June 23rd. There is **NO WAIT-LIST** available for this program-SITE REGISTRATION IS A FIRST COME BASIS.  

Registration reopens
Friday, July 12th - Thursday, July 18th for locations that still have openings. Enrollment will ONLY BE DONE at the Painter Park Office, 190 Kelsey Ave from 8am-5pm.  NO on-line registration during this period.

General Information
  • Parent or guardian may REGISTER children starting April 23 - June 23 at the Painter Park office or online. There is NO WAIT-LIST available for this program- SITE REGISTRATION IS A FIRST COME BASIS. PROOF of AGE and RESIDENCY REQUIRED upon registration if you DO NOT currently have a W.H. Recreation Dept. HOUSEHOLD ACCOUNT. Playground counselors WILL NOT accept your child's registration at any playground camp in JULY.
  • Our six-week playground program is for West Haven youngsters ages 6-12 years of age. Child must be 6yrs. by July 8th to participate in the summer playground program. NO EXCEPTIONS -thank you for your cooperation!
  • SUMMER 6 week Playground program meets OUTDOORS on the Schools playground area - Mon-Fri, starting July 8 - Aug.16 from 9:00 a.m.-1:45 p.m. Children MUST BE PICKED-UP PROMPTLY at 1:45pm DISMISSAL TIME or has permission to walk home!
  • The program DOES NOT meet on RAIN DAYS and may close early in the event of rain, thunderstorms or excessive heat warnings. PLEASE check our website for "ALERTS" or your "TEXT Messaging" or "EMAIL"!
  • The City’s summer nutrition program provide through the W.H. Board of Education-TBA- please check with the site counselors.
  • Your child will be bused to Carrigan School's swimming pool during designated camp swim time and for any other camp activities requiring transportation.
  • PLEASE NOTE: WHPR reserves the right to deny participation in the playground program if it is determined any information regarding age or residency is falsified and you WILL NOT receive a registration refund.
  • ~~For liability reasons and your child's safety, WHPR reserves the right to limit 50 youngsters in the pool per site on swim days. Also, children that DO NOT WANT TO GO SWIMMING will not be allowed to go and stay at the POOL due to SAFETY-we suggest that those children do not attend camp on SWIM DAYS. The Swimming schedule will begin on WEDNESDAY, July 10th. Please check with the counselor at your playground for scheduled day and swim time which may be subject to change without advance notice!

Swim Schedule begin Wed., July 10th
  • PLEASE NOTE for SAFETY REASONS: Campers who do not want to swim will not be able to go to the POOL on swim days and NO campers will be allowed to stay back at the playground during swim time! We suggest the camper not attend on scheduled swim day.
  • The Pool & Waterfront Supervisor and Playground Director have the authority to limit 50 children in the swimming pool per swim time. THIS IS FOR YOUR child's safety! ONLY WHPR STAFF and CAMPERS are allowed in the POOL FACILITY during camp hours of 9:15am - 1:30pm daily.
  • A swim test is given to all children that wish to swim in the deep end- this test is VOLUNTARY!
  • Swimming suits only must be worn in the pool; cut off shorts or any other full body coverings are prohibited.
  • WHPR provides USA Coast Guard approved life jackets for children that need assistance.
  • NO SWIMMEES, MASKS that cover the nose or SNORKELS allowed.
  • Your child will be bused to Carrigan Intermediate school pool from their playground camp.
  • Carrigan Pool - Swim Schedule begins Wednesday, July 10th.
  • SWIM SCHEDULE-begins Wednesday, JULY 10th (SUBJECT TO CHANGE, please check with playground counselor)
  • 9:30-10:30a: Mon-Molloy; Tue- Carrigan; Wed-Molloy; Thu-Carrigan; Fri-TBA
  • 10:30-11:30a: Mon-Washington A; Tue-Washington B; Wed-Seth Haley; Thu-TBA ; Fri-Seth Haley
  • 11:30-12:30p: Mon-Pagels A; Tue-Pagels B; Wed-TBA; Thu-Pagels A; Fri-Pagels B
  • 12:30-130p: Mon-TBA; Tue-Savin Rock; Wed-Washington A; Thu-Washington B; Fri-Savin Rock
