Dog training
Are YOU a dog owner looking for a "PAWSitive" Approach to correctly handle your canine friend? Our 6 week session designed by Evelia Rivera, CPDT-KA is geared for all types of canines- puppies, adolescent, rescue and older dogs. Two training levels per session will be offered on Saturday mornings in Painter Park. 



  • IMPORTANT: CURRENT Copy of Rabies Vaccination MUST be shown to office staff at time of registration, emailed to WHPR or brought to the FIRST CLASS in order to participate!  Please see section below for other "important general information" for dog/handler. 




AKC "STAR" Puppy Pre-school/Kindergarten:
This training level is for puppies 2 months to 10 months. It's never to young to begin training your puppy! This 6 week course is designed to begin the training process and provide necessary socialization opportunities. Sit, down and walking on a loose leash will be introduced. House training, nipping, barking and other typical puppy behaviors will be addressed. The 1 hour class is scheduled at 9 am, please meet behind the Tall Oaks Bldg. rear parking lot in Painter Park 190 Kelsey Ave.  Please see section below for other "important general information" for dog/handler.     

Basic 1
This training level is for dogs 6 months and older. The primary focus of this 6 week course is to help handlers and their dogs practice the basic commands with increasing distractions present. Focus, sit, down, walking on a loose leash as well as stay, come, touch and leave it cues are the primary behavior concentration at this level. The 1 hour class is scheduled at 10:15amplease meet behind the Tall Oaks Bldg. rear parking lot in Painter Park 190 Kelsey Ave.  Please see section below for other "important general information" for dog/handler. 

Basic 2
This training level is for dogs that have completed a beginner level. The primary focus of this 6 week course is designed to help the handler refine the skills taught in the beginner level or equivalent using "force free" positive reinforcement techniques. Focus, walking on a loose lead, come, stay, polite greeting and working with distractions will be covered at this level. The 1 hour class is scheduled at 9 am, please meet behind the Tall Oaks Bldg. rear parking lot in Painter Park 190 Kelsey Ave.  Please see section below for other "important general information" for dog/handler. 



General Information
  • IMPORTANT: CURRENT Copy of Rabies Vaccination MUST be shown at time of registration, emailed to WHPR or brought to the FIRST CLASS in order to participate!
  • There is a minimum of 4 dog/handler & maximum of 6/8 needed per class for program to be offered.
  • Dog and handler are EXPECTED to ARRIVE ON TIME FOR EACH LESSON! Minimum age for handling a dog is 12 years. Multiple handlers may participate in the class.
  • REQUIRED: Dog must be fitted with a buckle or slip collar; EasyWalk harness or other front clip harness and a six foot leash.
  • NOT PERMITTED: choke, chain or pronged/spiked collars AND retractable leash!
  • REQUIRED: A sweat-shirt with pockets, pocket vest, or treat pouch with a variety of soft dog teats for positive reinforcement!
  • Wear comfortable clothing for outdoors, sneakers or non-slip soled shoes. NO SANDALS.
  • Optional - bring water and container for you and your canine companion.
