AQUATIC PROGRAMS

SWIM LESSONS – WHHS POOL
    
Our 30 or 40 minute lessons run between 9-11:30 am on Sat. mornings. Classes are for infants, toddlers and children up to age 13, levels Parent/Tot to level 6. We also have adult lessons.
SESSION – Sept. 17-Nov. 5. FEE -$50/$60.                       
SESSION 2 – March 4 – April 29


POOL PARTY RESERVATIONS
         
Reserve time at WHHS pool for your next birthday party. Time is available for residents only on Saturdays and Sundays. FEE: $175/$185 for 2 hour party.


PUBLIC SWIM & ADULT LAP SWIM
                  
Public swim meets Mon/Wed/Fri. nights from 7:30-8:30 pm at the WHHS pool. Adult swim is 8:30-9:30 pm. Proof of residency required. FEE: $5 nightly.


WATER AEROBICS (WHHS POOL)
   
An energizing low to medium impact water fitness program that meets Mon/Wed/Fri from 7:15-8:00 am. SESSION 1: Sept. 4-Dec. 11. FEE: $115 res./$100 seniors/$135 non-res.
SESSION 2: Jan 3 – April 11, 2014.


LAP SWIM (WHHS POOL)
      
Our SUNRISE program meets Mon-Fri from 6:15-7am. The AFTERNOON program is from 12 noon to 1 pm – free to seniors ages 60 and over.
SESSION 1: Sept 4-Dec. 11.
SESSION 2: Jan. 3-April 11, 2014.                       
FEE:$75 residents/$65 seniors/$95 non-residents.


LIFEGUARD/WATERFRONT TRAINING
           
Course includes all minimum CPR, First-aid and Lifeguard Training Skills to become a Red Cross certified lifeguard. Meets at the Rec office and WHHS pool on Mon-Fri from 4:30-7:30 pm. Ages 15 and up.

SESSION: March 3-March 18, 2014. Reg opens Jan 7, 2014. FEE: $300 for residents / $325 for non-residents.

SPECIAL EVENTS AND EXCURSIONS


FLASHLIGHT HALLOWEEN HAUNT
          
Free Halloween hunt for ages10 + under at the Wooden Playground in Painter Park on Mon October 29. Rain date is Oct. 30. Age 3-5/ 6:15 pm, 4&5/ 6:30pm, 6&7/ 6:45pm,      8-10/ 7pm.

                                                                      
BREAKFAST WITH SANTA CLAUS(AGES 5-9)   
Meet and greet Santa on Sat. Dec. 8th from 9am to noon. Each child receives a gift and picture with Santa and the elves. FEE: $20. Residents only.

UCONN HUSKY HOOPS
   
Games, Fees and Date TBA. Call the Rec Office for details.


PAINTER PARK PICNIC AREA RENTALS
    
Reservations open on Tuesday, January 18, 2012. 
FEE: $75 residents only. $100/$200 business/org.

The Conference Center down at the shoreline is available for renting. For information call 937-3563.


ENERGY ASSISTANCE PROGRAM
                          
The city will begin accepting applications for the federally funded CT Energy Assistance Program on October.15, 2012 for OIL CUSTOMERS ONLY. The Fuel Assistance line is 937-357 to schedule an appointment. No walk-ins accepted. Those who heat with Gas or Electric, applications will begin on January 14, 2013.

SENIOR FLU VACCINATION PROGRAM
        
Flu vaccinations will be available at the Savin Rock Conference Center on Thu, October 11, from 9-10:30 am. Please bring your Medicare card. Medicare Part B is accepted. Those not on Medicare, please bring $35 cash.


WELL CHILD REFERRAL PROGRAM
      
The health dept. provides Well Child referrals for WH children ages kindergarten -18 yrs. Services include school physicals and immunizations. Call 937-3661 for details.

The Health Dept. also offers free appointments to treat for sexually transmitted diseases(STDs). We also coordinate with the Hill Health Center for Women, Infants and Children(WIC) supplemental food program at City Hall. Departmental Policy
The Tall Oaks Recreation Office in Painter Park at 190 Kelsey Ave. is open Mon-Fri, except for City Holidays, from 8 a.m.-5 p.m., where mail-in registration forms are accepted for some adult programs. Check with our staff about these programs.
 Anyone with a disability who may require reasonable modifications or assistance to participate in our programs should call our office.
 Department officials reserve the right to cancel any program because of insufficient enrollment and reserve the right to adjust program fees, times and locations. Furthermore, officials are not responsible for typographical errors.

ID CARD SYSTEM – Save 50%
Our $40 ID card entitles you to 20 public swim or adult open gyms with no expiration date. Card must be used only by the family name on the card.

YOUTH PROGRAMS


AFTER-SCHOOL REC PROGRAMS
               
Check our website for after school activities at Seth Haley, Carrigan and Bailey throughout the school year, starting in October.


DUCKPIN BOWLING
      
Preschool bowling for ages 3-5 on Wednesdays from 10:30-11:30 am or 12:30-1:30 pm at the Woodlawn Bowling Lanes.
Session: Nov. 1-Dec. 20th. Reg. is open Fee: $40 for res. $55 non res. After School program for 1st thru 6th grades on Mon or Wed from 4:15-5:15 pm. Or Sat from 9:30-10:30 am. Session: Oct 11-Dec. 15. Fee: $55 for res./$70 non-res.


ELEMENTARY SCHOOL KARATE CLUBS
                      
Instructors from the Assembly of Martial Arts will instruct students at Mackrille, Forest, Pagels Seth Haley, Washington and Savin Rock schools.
Session: Oct. 9-Dec 5 . Fee: $70 for new students and $65 for returning students. Next session begins on Jan 19th. All registration is done at Park Rec.


OPEN GYM BASKETBALL
       
YOUTH-17 and under-Carrigan-Mon/Wed-6:30-8:30 pm.  ADULT-18 and over-Forest school-Mon/Wed-6:30-8:30 pm.           
Session: November 5-March 27. Fee: $1 youth/$3 adults. Proof of residency required.

       
 
ADULT PROGRAMS

ADULT FITNESS-CARDIO-TONE
             
45 minute aerobic & muscle tone/body sculpting class. Class is designed for all levels of exercise enthusiasts. YOU control the intensity of the workout. Class meets Mon/Wed/ from 6:15-7:15 pm in the Seth Haley all-purpose room. $5 senior discount. Register for 1 or 2 days
Session 1: Sept 30-Dec. 4. Fee: $65/$75 for res $80/$95 for non-res.  
Session 2: Jan. 13-March 12, 2014. Reg opens Dec. 17th.

Cardio/Zumba – Try all four days - $100 Res/$115 Non-res.            

HATHA YOGA
                                                                          
Class teaches classic yoga postures, relaxation, imagery and breathing techniques. Promotes deep stretching for increased flexibility. All yoga levels welcome. Classes meet Tues from 6:30-7:30 pm or Thur from 6:15-7:15 at the Johnson/Noble St, Community Center, 2nd floor exercise room. Register for 1 or 2 days.                                
Session: Oct. 1-Dec. 12. Fee: $85/$160 for res. $100/$175 non-res. $5 senior discount.     
Session 2: Jan. 14-March 13, 2014. Reg opens Dec. 17th.


ZUMBA
                    
A fun 1 hour dance exercise routine guaranteed to burn calories, boost your energy and tone and shape your body. Class meets Tues or Thur at the Seth Haley gym from 6:30-7:30 pm. Choose 1 day or 2.
Session 1: Oct. 10-Dec. 13th.   Fee: $60/$95 res and $75/$110 for non-res.     
Session 2: Jan. 10-March 8, 2012. Reg. opens Dec. 13th.


ADULT VOLLEYBAL LEAGUES (WHHS GYM)
                      
Co-ed Volleyball: Our recreational leagues meet Mondays and Thursdays from 6:30-9:00 pm. Two matches a night. Women’s league: Competitive league meets Wed nights from 6:30-9:00 pm.  WHPR volleyball website is:

Session: Oct. 15-March 25, 2013. 
Fee: $185 resident team. $235 non- resident team.

    
AQUATIC PROGRAMS

FALL/WINTER SWIM TEAM (WHHS POOL)     
The swim team kicks off Sept. 12th and competes until about early March, 2017. To qualify, 8 + under swimmers must be able to complete one 25 yard lap, older 50 yards. Tryouts and new swimmers meeting on 9/12/16 at 5:30 pm. Returning swimmers meeting follows at 7:00 pm. 
First night of practice is 9/13/16                                                    
Fee: $215 res./$280 non res. $140/$180 HS girls, $130/$170 HS boys.
